Anniversary: 4 Years, St. George, Biking, and a Turtle

We decided to take off for our anniversary and went down to St. George for some warmer weather. We enjoyed some casual bike rides along the Santa Clara River, hiking in Snow Canyon, exploring at Zion's and some sick biking at Gooseberry Mesa. We figured since I was starting to get bigger and I would soon lose my sense of balance, we would enjoy some slick rock and single track at Gooseberry Mesa. I have to say Lily loved the bike rides, hiking, and the Santa Clara River even more than we did. Interestingly, one casual stroll along the river led our kind, easy-going Lily to find a turtle the size of a dessert plate and to our surprise she had taken off its head and arm! She must have felt the need to defend herself, but we were both surprised it was against a turtle! Needless to say, I felt extremely guilty our sweet dog had inflicted this upon a little turtle.

Baby Time - 20 Weeks

It's crazy to think there is something growing inside me and it's even crazier to see the physical changes it's rendering (Brett is even more excited about the "bump" that is forming). Being halfway there gets me more and more excited to be a mom. I'm feeling "it" move more and enjoying that it isn't just indigestion!

The Man, The Legend, The Loss - Shane McConkey

For those of you skiers out there, you were probably influenced (whether you knew it or not) by Shane McConkey. He passed away doing what he loved and doing what we all don't have the guts to do. The loss has been felt throughout the entire ski community and beyond. He has directly influenced the way Brett and I ski as he pushed the limits with both ski technology and the amazing terrain he covered. Here's a great excerpt to remember him by out of Skiing Magazine: "It’s been six years since Saucer Boy—the sled-toting drunk in Matchstick Productions’ ski flicks who bears an uncanny resemblance to Shane McConkey—was killed off in Ski Movie 3: The Front Line. In Matchstick’s new movie, Claim, Saucer Boy makes a much-anticipated return from the dead. Meanwhile, we’re still investigating rumors that Saucer Boy and McConkey have never been seen in the same room together. Here’s what the boy himself has to say: People have been asking, “Where’s Saucer Boy? When is he coming back?” Truth is, I’ve been living in a cave in Alaska, the last frontier. That’s where you go to get radical. Athletes in the extreme-skiing scene try to rip and be rad. But I rip on my saucer and on snowlerblades. A lot of times the comic relief in ski movies isn’t funny. If you’re going to try to be funny, you might as well try to be stupid too. I wear a one-off Bogner fluorescent green, pink, and orange jacket. I got it from Willy Bogner himself back in 1997. Now all the pro freeskiers are ripping off my look. You can’t kill Saucer Boy. Wendy Fisher once shot me with a shotgun. I tried to air 500 feet out of the Squaw Valley tram and went head first into some rocks. I got run over by an ambulance. I’m like Kenny in South Park. I’m too dang tough. I might run for president next term. I’m that popular. I’ll represent the Independent Party. No wait, the Shredapendent Party. Wait, the Jack-Dependent Party. When you’re airing a saucer, don’t let your feet hit the ground first. Take the landing force on your tailbone and up through your spine. If you need to stop, turn your Jack bottle upside down and use it as a self-arrest tool. Mullets are the baddest hairdo I ever invented. Everyone else who has a mullet is just copying me. J.T. Holmes cuts my mullet. 'The number-one thing: Always remember that nobody is cooler than you. Take yourself seriously and talk a big game about yourself.' " - SKIING MAGAZINE, OCTOBER 2008
